Connecticut is treading water in a new national survey on financial literacy in public schools. The Council on Economic Education reports that CT meets only one of the five measures the CEE uses to assess the strength of a state’s financial education program.

Our responsibilities as members of the ECHN Retirement Plan Investment Committee include: - Establishing and monitoring compliance with the Plan's Investment Policy Statement- Managing and ensuring the effectiveness of the Plan's investment strategy- Regularly reviewing investment performance- Selecting, monitoring and evaluating the Plan's service providers- Reviewing and monitoring Plan and participant fees - Ensuring compliance with ERISA and applicable laws and regulations

"Beer, Burgers & Managing Your Bucks" was an innovative, community-based approach to financial education for young adults, which I conceived and coordinated during the 2013-2014 season. Sponsored and supported by Manchester Community College's (Manchester, CT) new arts and entrepreneurial center, the program took place the second Wednesday of the month at MCC on Main, 903 Main Street, Manchester, CT. Topics included personal money-management issues, the basics of health insurance, tax-saving strategies, entrepreneurship as a career option, smart debt management. Each session consisted of networking, a beer sampling offered by a Connecticut microbrewery and sliders from a local burger bar, followed by a presentation on a specific money-related topic of interest to young adults. The program continues under the coordination of MCC on Main and has shifted its focus to entrepreneurial development and related money issues.
