Human Resources Assistant

Current
United Nations Headquarters

New York, Ny

Temporary assignment of six months with the Organizational Design and Classification Unit at UNHQ in New York to contribute to a Mission-wide classification project. The project aimed to classify all positions applicable to the field for a) recruitment purposes and b) for recruitment campaigns. In the past, job codes were used by mission but only a limited number of job descriptions or Generic Job Profiles were available for use. The Mission-wide Classification project addressed the gap between the two..In addition to the above only a limited number of posts in field missions had been classified and a remaining of nearly 15,000 positions needed to be classified. In light of UMOJA it was imperative that all posts in all field missions be classified as soon as possible. Timelines and quality assurance measures needed to reflect the impact such classification may have on the staff member encumbering a post in case the classification does not match the staff member’s current grade. It was therefore proposed to establish a classification programme governed by project management principles (Prince2) to allow the organisation to address all needs in a controlled, effective and efficient manner. During this particular assignment, as part of a classification team, my responsibilities were as follows:. Drafting of Job Descriptions in the Professional, Field Service and national categories.. Focal point to provide daily/weekly progress reports to the supervisor of ODCU on the status of the classification exercise. . I acted and was nominated as the focal point to serve as a liaison between the ODCU and the nominated Subject Matter Experts (approximately 15) who officially travelled from different missions to New York to review the draft job descriptions with the purpose of finalizing them and submitting them officially for classification.
