Report to the Vice President, Engineering. Accountable for leading the capital projects management office for Nestlé USA and Canada, operating companies of Nestlé SA. Responsible for creating a best in class Capital Projects Management Office required to execute a $500 MM US capital investment plan with approx. 900 individual projects in the project portfolio. Types of projects range from small purchases to Greenfield factory construction and included, production lines (process and packaging), industrial services, factory expansions, distribution centers, administration offices, and information technology projects. Achieved through the implementation of a standardized project management methodology, project governance, TPM – early management and lean manufacturing principles across all capital projects in the project portfolio in order to deliver reliable startups and sustainable operational excellence. Established a professional project management development program attended by more than 600 associates in partnership with PMI certified instructors that integrates the PMI approach with Nestlé Project Management Methodology, hygienic engineering design, corporate safety, quality, and engineering standards. Developed an outstanding team of strong project management professionals capable of executing capital projects aligned with both industry standards and corporate governance.

Responsibilities:1) The administration of the capital investment program for Nestlé USA and Nestlé Canada. Technically and financially evaluated capital investment proposals on behalf of the senior executive team prior to project approvals. Worked in close collaboration with chief engineers and operations finance to validate capital project submissions. 2) Monitored and controlled capital project planned expenditure vs. individual project baselines ensuring cash flow management across the market. Consolidated and reported capital investment key financial data to both the local Executive Leadership Team and Nestlé SA.3) Provided engineering support for 300+ field engineers during technical capital project reviews, including project management tools and techniques, construction contract administration and management, LEAN manufacturing, early management training, operations startup training, project KickStarts, hygienic engineering design, qualified 3rd party Architecture and Engineering firms as service providers, 4) Developed and maintained engineering policies, procedures and technical specifications, established and maintained Group Engineering Website, integrated engineering organizations from acquired businesses (Dreyers Ice Cream, Kraft Pizza, Prometheus), led numerous 2 day, 5 day project management workshops, key note speaker at internal meetings on various topics (hygienic design, capital projects, project management, engineering workflow), compliance and governance.

Accountable for the corporate engineering and maintenance strategy at multiple factory locations in Canada (3) and the USA (1). Responsible for driving performance improvement across the factory asset base including, process, packaging and industrial utilities. Achieved through the execution and reporting of the annual capital ($50 MM US) investment and maintenance plans ($30 MM US). Sustained through the development of 3 year master plans supporting commercial plans that deliver safe, quality products to the consumers. Included 3 confectionery factories (Kit Kat, Smarties, Aero, Coffee Crisp, Turtles, Crunch, Goobers, Raisinettes, NesQuik), 1 roast and ground coffee factory (Tim Hortons, Marché).

Responsible for the development and execution of the North American confectionery strategy involving the rationalization of 2 factories into 1, the divestiture of a business to a competitor, transfer of production lines to other plants (US, Brazil), installation of higher capacity lines, chocolate processing, packaging, and industrial services, and the closure of a major facility. Included the basic engineering design, procurement of capital investment funding ($50 MM US), detailed engineering design, project schedule development, stakeholder alignment, project monitoring, controlling and reporting, technical specification’s development, purchase order issuance, contracting strategy, construction contract management, contractor management, factory acceptance testing, equipment commissioning, qualifying and production startup, progress and final payment issuance, purchase order closeout, development of maintenance plans into computer maintenance management system, project closeout. Achieved by collaborating with a global cross functional team of technical experts, quality, safety, finance, legal, project engineers, factory managers, mergers & acquisitions group.Other Responsibilities included researching and defining potential new capital projects and the oversight of the execution of the approved capital investment plan at the US confectionery and beverage factories.

Responsible for the development of the confectionery and beverage factory 3 year master plans and the execution of the yearly capital project plan (~$10 MM US/year). Activities: Master plan development included capacity and bottleneck evaluation of process lines, packaging lines and supporting industrial services versus the commercial outlook, preparation of budgetary cost estimates, preliminary project schedules and the business case supporting any proposed capital requests.Capital project execution included the finalization of technical specifications, direct hire and supervision of architects, and engineers of record, detailed engineering design, preparation of bid packages, contractor selection, construction contract award, purchase order issuance, daily and weekly contractor project review meetings, change order management, factory equipment acceptance testing, equipment installations, commissioning, qualifying, verifying, coordination of vendor training for technicians, and operators, creating maintenance work plans, creating one point lessons, issuance of final payments, asset tagging and project closeout, including post project evaluations.

Reported to the Market Head of Engineering Operations. Collaborated with factory operations and brand marketing to research and implement capital investment projects supporting the commercial strategy that delivered less than 2 year discounted payback and other financial and strategic requirements (~ $5 MM CND/yr). Responsible for all aspects of capital concept development, construction, installation and commissioning and startup of new capital projects. Included preparing cost estimates, detail engineering designs, technical specifications, purchase order issuance, equipment factory acceptance testing, development of maintenance plans, training of technicians, and hourly operators in accordance with the factory Total Performance Manufacturing (TPM) rollout in order to deliver sustainable operational excellence in a unionized factory environment.

Reported to the Head of Factory Engineering. Responsible for the on-site construction/project engineering for the construction of a new 120,000 sq.ft. ($100 MM CND) water based paint manufacturing facility. Activities included review and preparation of construction bid packages (all trades), contractor walk through, contractor selection, purchase order issuance, daily and weekly construction review meetings, construction change order management, construction site co-ordination, equipment installation, construction progress payment approval, environmental permitting applications, direct hire of architects, engineers and contractors, in a unionized (Canadian Autoworkers Union) environment.
