In the System Development group I’m Leading Engineer for Receiver In the Canal (RIC) projects being the technical responsible for the design and development of such products. Management activities focus on the technical supervision of the project group, the strong support to the project manager and the direct contact with the customer. Main technical activities are Feasibility Studies of the new products (concept development, risk analysis, demonstrators and prototypes) and Product Development (design, product compliance, FMEA, tests and control plan).After the products design freeze, I work in coordination with Engineering group and mass production team following all the steps that bring the products to the mass production, I carried out research for Innovative solutions for RIC and modules for new products generation.

I have developed and tested sensorized micro-grippers for the controlled manipulation of mechanical micro-components, biological tissue and optical samples. These grippers use piezoresistor sensors to monitor both the grasping force and the position-orientation of grasped objects. I have contributed to the development of a Haptic environment for micro-assembly within the Dutch project “Microned” in the work package “Haptic micro-assembly”. I cooperate and have contacts with various research groups and companies both at National (The Netherlands) and International level (UK, Belgium, Italy). I have coached students in their MsC thesis. During these two years I have written 8 papers appeared in referred International Journals and Conferences and two project proposals within the Dutch National Founding scheme. The VENI one is at present in the evaluation phase.I gave lectures in the production Engineering field within the Master course of Mechanical Engineering

I carried out research in the Micro-Technologies field with focus on automatic Micro-Handling and Micro-Assembly. In my PhD I acquired expertise in micro-assembly and physical phenomena at the micrometer-scale and I developed innovative devices for the automatic and semi-automatic handling of micro-components exploiting electrostatic, electromagnetic and capillary forces. I also get knowledge in micro-laser cutting, vision control, micro-metrology, design for micro-assembly for which I developed design for micro-assembly rules. I developed an assembly microfactory for the automatic assembly of micro-products within the Italian Project of Strategic Interest “Development of innovative technologies for the assembly of hybrid micro-products” (co-founded by the Ministry of Research). The Microfactory ( http://microfactory.ing.unipi.it/) included micro-handling devices developed during my PhD research activities and was able to assemble automatically various micro-products. In this project I was part of the leader team coordinating the research of 5 different Italian universities.I wrote 6 papers appeared in referred International Journals and Conferences and coached students in their MsC thesis. I wrote 3 National project proposals of which 2 were foundedI was assistant lecturer to the Production Engineering course within the Master course of Mechanical Engineering.I gave lectures within the course, coached students in the course and evaluate them in exams.
