Designed and built manufacturing execution systems and related automation orchestration for the production of the Model 3 and Model Y general assembly, drive unit, body shop, paint shop, battery cells and other products.These systems grew out of a project to fix "production hell" in order to hit the 5,000-a-week Model 3 production milestone in Q2 of 2018. They now provide the data, protocols and execution layers for much of the manufacturing across all Gigafactories worldwide.

Most of my tenure was spent in the Core Services group, responsible for the Tweet service, User service, Timeline service and Social Graph service, where I focused primarily on the Timeline service.Over the years I worked on building new features like Retweet, Lists, Notifications, Conversations, Collections and follower analytics as well as the systems underlying them, such as the Home timeline and the Notifications timeline. These services are the main critical path of Twitter's reads and writes, each receiving hundreds of thousands to a million plus requests per second while maintaining p90 latencies in low double digit milliseconds. Much of this work was done in conjunction with the broader multi-year project of migrating the infrastructure from a monolithic Rails application to a Scala based service oriented architecture. This required porting tens of millions of requests per second and 1 million lines of code to a new infrastructure across multiple data centers with feature parity and no down time. We decreased server requirements by an order of magnitude, increased efficiency by orders of magnitude resulting in annual cost savings in 8 figures.I also did extensive work to scale the engineering org from 20 to over 2,000, being among a few to start and then serve on various organizational initiatives such as the engineering promotion committee and the engineering hiring committee, as well as frequently joining executive strategy off-sites.When I left Twitter I was one of eight engineers to have reached the Senior Staff level in an org of over 2,000 employees.

One of the initial 8 core team members with commit rights for the Ruby on Rails framework. Worked extensively on developing the foundations of its various libraries in its early years. Taught the framework and best practices to many students and wrote substantial documentation during this time as well. Was a frequent keynote speaker at the major domestic and international conferences.I no longer work with Rails but am proud and grateful to have been a part of it.
