Dr. Guimaraes has been in Vascular & Interventional Radiology (VIR) since 2005. In the last 14 years, he has worked collaboratively with MUSC divisions and served as the VIR Medical Director from 2015-2021. He has experience with bringing healthcare products from concept to market, global healthcare products marketing strategy, working as physician liaison, devices FDA approval process, animal and clinical research, and with developing clinical studies (randomized clinical trial and registry). Some recent leadership accomplishments are: 35% increase in rvus in FY20/FY21, 4 new service lines, hired new staff, replaced VIR equipment, designed OBLs for outpatient expansion, opened VIR rapid access clinic, expanded outpatient clinics. Dr Guimaraes has served in Medical Companies advisory boards, patented 2 medical devices, designed and brought products to market, co-edited three textbooks, published >45 peer-reviewed articles and given > 500 lectures in the most prestigious national/international meetings.
