Alumni of the inaugural two year Engineering Graduate Program (EGP) that consisted of 4 rotations covering; Wind & Site Engineering, Wind Farm Construction, Wind Farm Development and Application Engineering.𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:• Principal Wind & Site Engineer for a complex 240MW Australian wind farm, where overhauling GE’s noise propagation process was critical to securing this project.• Created process for AEP/revenue loss due to high temperature operation. Process used in broader region, instrumental in down-selection for AGL projects. • Supporting various Australian projects during tendering phase through micro-siting optimisation, energy yield analysis, noise propagation modelling, BoP optimisation, product selection, site visits, customer presentations/reports• Developed a prototype energy system planning tool for Australia called futurEnergy, in partnership with Melbourne Energy Institute. This involved countless hours of literature review, brainstorming, partner meetings, fundraising and testing.• Rotation in Salzbergen, Germany, designing several European wind projects, developing technical skill-sets in mechanical loads analysis and wind farm SCADA. Through focusing on separate carbon intensive areas of the economy: Stationary Energy, Transportation, Buildings Efficiency, Land-Use and Resources Export Revenue, BZE looks to use commercially available off-the-shelf technology to change bring about a Zero Carbon Australia (ZCA) future for Australia. BZE, in partnership with the Melbourne University Energy Institute (MEI) and Germany Aerospace Center (DLR) published a study into the feasibility of a High Speed Rail (HSR) project servicing the east coast of Australia. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:• Built rolling stock CAPEX/OPEX cost model• Built rail alignment cost model with Google earth interface, capturing varying terrain, turning radii, cut/fill analysis, varying land costs for urban/country etc to estimate rail alignment costing for the HSR plan• Comparison study of global and Australian investment trends in rail v.s. other forms of transportation e.g. road, air, sea etc.

Walter Bassett Aerodynamics Laboratory

Experimental paid research position involved in the optimal placement of a Wind Turbine in a coastal environment. The objective of the project was to improve understanding of flow parameters in complex terrain which will help in wind turbine micro-siting to avoid re-circulation wind flow patterns, increase energy production and improve turbine lifetime. The project was conducted in a ‘suction type’ boundary layer wind tunnel over 12 months.𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:• Built experimental apparatus; variable height model cliff.• Built 2 measuring probe systems: longitudinal and traverse hot-wire probe sensor and 21 electret condenser microphone array• Built automated process using MATLAB for sensor calibration, apparatus operation, data collection and data interrogation• Published thesis outlining findings on the relationships between various key flow parameters i.e. mean wind speed, cliff height, re-circulation region height/length.
