About Marcel Van Wijk
After I suffered a stroke I am no longer able to work as Head of finance, risk & compliance at Clifford Chance LLP. The reason I suffered stroke at such a young age, while I am otherwise very healthy, is that I have a hereditary disease of brain blood vessels called CADASIL. CADASIL leads to a reduced blood flow to the brain and therefore strokes resulting in progressive disability. After I had to stop working, I decided to write a book about CADASIL and this terrible disease has affected me, my wife and our young family. My book 'Shouldn't I be dead already?' has been published in May 2023.
