Security Testing Methodology for Robustness Analysis of Web Service and WS-Security for Injection AttacksAbstract. Due to its distributed and open nature, the Web Services give rise to new security challenges. This technology is susceptible to many types of attacks such as injection attack and denial of services (DoS), using SOAP messages to inject malicious code and find vulnerabilities in many Web Services. In this way the attacker can collect and manipulate information. The proposed approach makes use of WSInject Fault Injector (IF), which emulates attacks for security tests on Web Services combined with WS-Security and Security Tokens, which identify the sender and guarantee the legitimate access control to the messages exchanged. The results show that using this mechanism improves the robustness of web services tested, but still not enough to ensure protection against these attacks. A Fault Injection technique allows us to emulate several attacks and generate variations of these, compared to other techniques such as penetration testing, that using automated tools to send requests with attacks such as the vulnerability scanner (VS) soapUI.
