Marc Fouet work experience

A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.

Senior Scientist

San Carlos, California, United States

Currently, at Gigagen (a Grifols company), I am part of the technology development team, focusing on functional single-cell droplet-based assays to characterize antibody secretion, binding, and viral neutralization for our recombinant polyclonal libraries. I also work on enhancing the GigaGen discovery platform (e.g. to advance single-cell encapsulation and library integration in mammalian cell lines), and bringing new techniques and instrumentation.

Postdoctoral Researcher

Berkeley, Ca, Usa

I joined the Rine laboratory (MCB / QB3) at UC Berkeley as a postdoc and stayed for 7 years of exciting science. I studied transcriptional silencing failure modes in Saccharomyces Cerevisiae with classic genetic tools and at the single cell level with microfluidics.– Developed a mating- and fluorescent reporters-based assay to measure the extent of transient silencing loss at the HML locus.– Measured the stability of epigenetic states with microscopy and flow cytometry.– Investigating of a correlation between epigenetic states and localization of Sir proteins (foci) with super resolution microscopy.– Installed a compact photolithography and PDMS molding station to enable microfluidic chip making within a biology wet lab.– Designed and built microfluidic devices to trap single cells and allow for mating and sporulation. Measured silencing loss rates through meiosis.– Trained and used a Mask-RCNN deep learning algorithm to intensify data analysis.– Managed the lab data storage, network, servers, and microscopes.

Sep 2016 - Oct 2023

Graduate Student Researcher

Toulouse, France

Design and fabrication of 3D microfluidic devices with integrated micro-coils and impedimetric biosensors for tagging, sorting, and detecting monocytes subpopulations from blood.– Introduced a photolithography dry film lamination process which resulted in a simpler and faster fabrication of multi-layer microfluidic devices.– Designed and built novel mixing and filter-less size sorting 3D microfluidic chips for sample preparation. Compared theory, CFD simulations and experimental data.– Conceived magnetophoretic units combining permanent magnets and micro-coils which resulted in higher separation efficiency and trapping resolution.– Designed and built new chip holders, an electrical current control board and associated software to improve integration, reliability and create automated instrumentation.– Delivered proof of concept devices to magnetically tag and separate THP-1 monocytes.

Oct 2012 - Apr 2016

Research Intern

San Francisco Bay Area

Investigations on a centrifugal microfluidic blood analysis device.- Characterization of capillary stop valves and siphons- Implementation of imaging techniques (Micro-CT) and contact angles measurements- Optimization of ultrasonic welding process (with PMMA)

Feb 2012 - Aug 2012

Research Intern

Toulouse, France

Laboratory for Analysis and Architecture of Systems (French National Center for Scientific Research).Assessment of the efficiency of a magnetophoretic separation stage of a microfluidic device. Research directed by Anne-Marie Gué.- Surface functionalization of magnetic microbeads (Zeta potential measurements)- Conception of a simplified separation model (Matlab/Comsol)

May 2011 - Sep 2011

Intern
