Investigated, negotiated, and settled complex aged liability claims for this company’s discontinued commercial and personal lines of business across the United States. Claims handled include general liability, automobile, transportation, labor law (including Illinois 1B exposures), product liability, and personal injury (libel and slander) reserved up to and over $1 million. Position required effective management of a mix of panel counsel and staff counsel toward successful resolution of difficult cases and the reduction of claim caseload for the company’s discontinued business. Licensed in numerous states. Responsible for maintaining staff’s certification to adjust claims in California. The team’s success in eliminating claim pending for discontinued business has led to the ramping down and anticipated conclusion of this program in the near future.

Responsible for the technical quality of claim files of a team of 13 adjusters of various experience levels. This required my delivery of extensive training and staff counseling, both in classroom and informal settings, in systems use and applications, time management, desk management, claim law, claim procedures, company procedures, regulatory compliance, policy interpretation, coverage application and interpersonal working relationships, among other subjects. Responsible for granting settlement authority to others and for providing guidance and direction on current claim files. Participated in the design, flowcharting and implementation of the regulatory control aspect of ClaimWorks, the company’s proprietary claim handling system.
