Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Dept. Lab Supervisor
Royal Military College Of Canada
- Responsible for the design and construction of complete test facilities for spark ignition, wind tunnels, diesel, gas turbine engines and turbo Jet engines. Systems such as engine mounting, cooling, ventilation, sound attenuation, instrumentation and controls had to be implemented. These tasks required contacting experts in the respective fields to gain proper knowledge in order to make sound decisions on these projects.- Responsible for creating several new experimental laboratories in support of under grad programs. These ranged from simple fluid pipe flow experiments and small scale wind tunnels to various engine cutaway training aids. - Responsible for keeping the Department up on current technologies. This lead to the researching and purchasing of such systems as Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines (Machining centres and water jet cutting machines), 3D printers and a FARO arm system for reverse engineering. - Using SolidWorks CAD software designed and fabricated lab and test equipment such as wind tunnels, pressure sensing probes, “free floating” aircraft models, traversing mechanisms, super sonic cascade, etc. These designs required the knowledge use of many conventional fabrication techniques and materials such as various metal alloys, fiberglass, carbon fibre and wood.- Developed and implemented a user friendly PC based inventory verification system, using both pictorial references as well as the usual stock code references. This tool then provided us with consistent, quick and accurate annual verification.- Instructed students in the use of the CAD and CAM software, with a follow through by training them in the operation of our CNC machines.
