Tasks included:- Two week-long sweep of up to 8 miles a day on foot of invasive Arundo donax, where the plant was cut down and herbicide was applied to open stalk. - Herbicide application using 3-gallon backpacks to remove mostly invasive black mustards (Brassica)- Brush cutting and hand weeding around sensitive native plant species- Planting over 10,000 container plants along large hill sides and seeding 3 acres of flat areas● Maintained field equipment to ensure quality and safety ● Worked on a project with the city of Laguna Beach to plant fire resistant native plants and clear fire sensitive invasive weeds● Walked up to 10 miles a day and traversed thick brush as well as large hillsides

● Conducted hair snare population surveys of black bears (Ursus americanus) in the Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles, CA- Navigated through the Angeles Mountains to GPS coordinates for 25 hair snare corral sites a week and followed procedures for constructing a 30m. barbed wire corral around trees or posts. - Utilized, calibrated, and maintained all field equipment including compasses, radios, trucks, scent lure, tools, and barbed wire.- Camera traps were set at each site and monitored regularly. Each of the 25 sites was visited every week to set new scent lure and thoroughly check for bear hair. - Good hair samples were collected and sent to a lab for DNA analysis. - Utilized a detailed data sheet at each corral visit to assess vegetation type, habitat condition, wildlife use, and environmental factors. Data was then compiled into a database for retrieval and analysis.- Camera data was analyzed for animal presence and compiled into folders and excel datasheets● Utilized established protocols to resolve problems in survey work such as access to site and safety concerns. ● Utilized Google Earth to search for new suitable areas to set up future corrals, then scouted the area to determine usability and suitability● Collaborated with fellow biologists on the project to plan the work schedule and route● Assisted in a statewide Brant (Branta bernicla) survey throughout San Diego, CA. Drove to various locations and utilized a spotting scope to determine presence and number of Brant● Collected lymph nodes from over 25 mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) during hunting season to send in for chronic wasting disease testing● Transported an injured mountain lion (Puma concolor) due to wildfires to a veterinarian 3 hours north of Los Angeles, CA.● Utilized gps coordinates to locate a deceased mountain lion to take teeth measurements, photos, and an ear sample

Duties included conducting research by utilizing databases and communicating with outside agencies through email, call, and meetings. After conducting adequate research, all findings were compiled into a species status assessment document that included mapping future climate and habitat projections by using ArcGIS with NOAA projections of sea-level rise.
