The Radboud Radio Lab is part of the department of Astrophysics of the Radboud University and is dedicated to support the technology development and innovations in astronomical instrumentation.

Teamleader for the development of a low-frequency radio antenna that will a pathfinder mission for a future low-frequency interferometer array on the moon which aims at detecting the 21-cm Dark Ages line from the very early universe. Recent activities focus on the design and implementation of data-processing and power-reduction algorithms for the radio receiver and simulations to estimate the level of the man-made radio noise (RFI) on the South Pole of the moon.Project manager for the design and construction of the BlackGEM optical telescope array that will be placed at the ESO facilities in La Silla (Chili). The goal of BlackGEM is to detect the optical counterpart to the gravitational wave detections that are expected to be done with Virgo and Ligo from 2015 onwards.

At S[&]T I'm responsible for the business development of projects in space and science and account management of the S[&]T experts pool (STEP).For STEP my focus is currently on managing our activities for the NATO NC3A department, ESA and other space related accounts.As scientist and project manager (Co-PI) I'm involved in the ESA L-DEPP study for a radio antenna on the ESA Lunar Lander which is expected to land on the the South Pole of the moon in 2018. Next to the ESA study I will be leading a Dutch consortium who will be preparing for the phase B activities for the radio antenna as part of the L-DEPP package.

Teaching classes

Setup and manage projects in space industry with clients such as ESA/ESTEC, SRON and Astron: responsible for all space business projects, the EMITS registration with ESA, the tenders (ITT) and support/coordination of the proposal process.Coordinator and scientific contributor for the ESA DARIS study for a low frequency array radio telescope in space or the moon, in collaboration with the University of Nijmegen, EADS-Astrium and Dutch Space.Business intelligence project to setup and manage the Altran Technologies Netherlands (ATN) database and related Financial Monthly Reports, in the form of a Dashboard, using MS SQL Server 2005 and the proprietary Altan Dashboard application. The ATN Financial Dashboard displays a collection of metrics providing timely and visually intuitive snapshots of the financial data and is a flexible tool which uses ETL implementation tools and will allow for report export mechanisms and specific aggregations.Currently I'm involved in the following projects: an ESA study for a low frequency space-based radio telescope called DARIS (Distributed Aperture array for Radio astronomy In Space) a study for Space Based Solar PowerAnd I'm responsible for all the space related activities for Altran in the Netherlands

Individually develop and perform scientific research, which includes the application of new scientific observations and related funding, EU proposal (FP7 framework) for large research training network involving 7 different European research institutes, software development (pipe-line reduction software) for scientific analysis, writing of scientific reports/papers, give both scientific as well as popular presentations and the supervision of several Master and PhD projects.Besides a number of important scientific publications, one if the major achievements is the design and implementation of a (instrument-specific) software pipline reduction package that allows for a consistant and fast analysis of large amounts of (scientific) data from a database.

Scientific research which includes the development of software (pipe-line reduction software) for scientific analysis of astronomical data, writing of scientific reports/papers, give both scientific as well as popular presentations and presenting lectures for astronomy and physics Master students.Besides the publication of a number of scientic publications that resulted in obtaining the degree of "Doctor in Astronomy", one of the major results is the in-flight calibration of the Proportional Counter Array X-ray detector onboard the NASA Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer satellite.
