My role is to help build the Android mobile application for our CRM product. We've leveraged the Cordova framework to be able to reuse much of the UI that's already been built for the web.

These projects are a mix of native Android development and hybrid web container apps leveraging SAP Mobile Platform that connects to enterprise systems such as SAP.

We modified the AOSP and created an Android-based tablet and phone named Grid10 and Grid4. I am part of the team whose work is to explore the internals of the whole android OS and modify it to fit the requirements for our devices. Much of the work consist of framework-level changes, webkit modifications and Window Manager modifications to enable the system-wide gesture-based navigation. BrowserWe modified the existing Android browser and make it into an interesting chrome-less browser by removing all the buttons, address bar and tabs and put it into an overlay that can be displayed by doing a simple gesture. Much of the work consists of modifying the existing browser code as well as the webkit code.Text selectionIn android, the text selection was implemented in two separate approach. First, the text selection is implemented in TextView widget so that you can highlight and select texts in normal android widgets extending TextView such as EditText. The other implementation is in WebTextView, which was designed for the WebView text selection. I modified these two implementations to modify the text selection color and cursor as well as long-press and short press behavior. Both implementations are a mix of Java and C++ implementations from the android widgets and down to the skia library.

Mobile Visual Recognition ApplicationI developed a prototype that uses several layers of image processing to implement a succesful image/logo recognition application that runs on a mobile platform particularly Android platform.The application uses OpenCV for Android and Android NDK (C++) to perform the complex image processing such as converting the image from 3 channels to single channel image, colored to binary image conversion and downsampling the images to improve the performance of image recognition algorithms.The logo tracking application uses template matching algorithm to find out if the target logo is present in the particular video frame and where it is located. Once the location has been detected, an overlay will be drawn on top of the video frame using the standard android SDK libraries.mTrails (Silverlight component)I developed the Silverlight component where users can define a particular region in the map (using Microsoft Bing) by selecting a coordinate and defining the radius. These region is going to be used later on in an Android application to trigger or display a particular content based on user's location.mPlayer This is an Android application that I developed as a sub-component for mTrails. The purpose of this application is to allow students to roam around the trail and trigger or display a content based on their location. The application constantly receives GPS location updates and decides based on the latitude and longitude whether to display another activity, play video or play a sound in the user's mobile phone.
