As young as 4 years old, I always wanted to be a farmer, because they grow stuff from nothing. And while I didn’t become a farmer in the literal sense, my intrinsic desire to make things grow, whether that be a business or an individual’s career, is still very much alive. In fact, this, combined with a desire to take risks and to push things where they’ve never been before, is what fuels me. I’m a serial entrepreneur who’s started and sold four companies. Most recently Jet.com, which sold to Walmart for $3.3 billion in 2016 and prior to that, Diapers.com/Quidsi which sold to Amazon in 2011 for $550 million. As an entrepreneur, I’ve learned how to build a mission-driven culture, prioritize the customer value proposition, build great teams and empower them to move fast to get stuff done. I’m a mercenary turned missionary. Because of this, I’m passionate about helping other founders make sense of the startup world, because I know from experience it can be difficult to navigate.
