Marc graduated from the University of Applied Sciences, Aalen, Germany, in 2000 with a diploma in Ophthalmic Optics. For his diploma research project on bulbar redness grading scales, conducted at the Centre for Contact Lens Research (CCLR) at the School of Optometry in Waterloo, Marc received the 2001 BCLA 'Da Vinci Award'. The validated bulbar redness (VBR) grading scale he developed in collaboration with Drs Debbie Jones and Trefford Simpson during this research project is available for licensing through the Centre for Commercialization at the University of Waterloo. Please see the project section below for more information on the VBR scale and licensing opportunities.In Sept 2005, Marc returned to the CCLR to pursue his PhD degree, continuing his research on grading, scaling and the objective assessment of bulbar redness under the supervision of Dr. Trefford Simpson. In addition to his graduate research, In 2008, he received the 'Distinguished Teaching Assistant' Award from the University of Waterloo Optometry Student Society (UWOSS). Marc is currently a Senior Clinical Scientist at the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE; formerly known as CCLR) and an assistant research professor (adjunct) at the School of Optometry and Vision Science in Waterloo.Research interests: Anterior segment imaging, image processing, clinical grading
