We are restructuring groups around specialities like general, obstetrics, pain, locoregional, preassessment, neurosurgery, transplant/hepatobiliary unit, orthopedic,urology and of course ICU. As we will open many new beautiful facilities next year we are in the hring process of another 100 top quality consultants, but also 50 new technicians, and administrative personal. As a corporate department working in 7 hospitals, we are currently transitioning to an academic department, with a students (Weill Cornell, Qatar University), large residency (American Accreditation, ACGME/I) and fellowship (three years program) program (80 in-training). We also are involved in the training of many other residents like pediatrics, emergency program, trauma program and the transitional year. In the beginning of September we will start a Ph.D. program in Qatar University. We are now actively hiring researchers to join our department like a deputy chair of research, post-doctoral researchers, and Ph.D.'s. In the department (and later for Anesthesia in the Netherlands) I chaired the Scientific Committee developing Clinical and Basic research in anesthesia, pain, new devices, pharmacokinetics, obstetrics and coagulation (see Research Gate). My most important other national and international functions were member of the European Union regulation authority Anesthesiology and ICU (UEMS), Higher Education Board the Netherlands, European Society of Anesthesiology board member council, European board of Anesthesiology (EBA), nomination committee ESA and member of speciality sections in the ESA and the DGAI.
