Focus is on the role of meaning in the innovation processes of designed artefacts and on the understanding the meanings people assign to designed artefacts. Current research activity aims to develop tools which are needed in support of design activities for the purposes of conceiving, measuring and validating meanings. Particular emphasis is placed on the thinking process, dialogue, identification of semantics and the creation of a vocabulary of meanings that people typically associate to their understanding and interpretation of the designed artefact. Methodologies include natural language processing, thematic coding, designing ethnography, digital ethnography, real fictions and co-creation. Research applications: "Naturalness of interaction" in Autonomous Road Vehicles which focusses on the psychological, sociological and emotional interactions which are influenced by the contextual constraints imposed by the road vehicles and by the driving tasks. Project-based teaching activity involves 'Metadesign' for designed artefacts and Final Design Studio Laboratory of the MSc Master Degree Course in Digital and Interaction Design (DID) . Outputs are exhibited in a student-led design showcase of evolutionary interactive artefacts using digital technologies to envision new meaningful scenarios for people.Specialties: Design For Meaning, Human Centred Design, User Experience (UX) Design, Psycho-sociological and Emotional engagement, Psychophysical scaling, Digital and Interaction Design, Automotive Experience Design.
