I have been a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), inclusive of which was an extended placement at Monash University in Australia. Examples of the projects, which were supported by the hosting institutions, The Swedish Research Council, The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, included (but not limited to):1) Fossil-Free Steel Production (The MOE Pathway) and potential energy sources for powering the electrochemical cells2) Additive manufacturing of lightweight alloys (Collaboration between MIT, Monash, Australian National University (ANU), Harvard, and Meotec GmbH (in Aachen, Germany)). 3) Structural analysis and high-temperature properties of high entropy alloys (Collaboration between MIT, Chalmers, ANU, and Monash).4) High-temperature electrochemistry in molten oxide and salt mixtures (Collaboration between MIT, NREL (US), and Monash).

My main duties include (but not limited to):1) Sustainability-related topics within the sector (Currently leading several projects about recycling, lightweighting, sustainable manufacturing, process optimization as well as updating the organization's standard and design guidelines documents in regards with the latest environmental concerns). 2) Promoting the use of advanced metallic materials/technologies (especially within the e-mobility and hydrogen fuel cell sectors). This includes identifying organizational priorities that act as strategic anchors (e.g. implementation of new materials and manufacturing methods into Volvo's value chain).3) Promoting collaboration with universities as well as partnerships with external stockholders within the organization's priority areas. 4) Other R&D activities: (a) circular materials engineering, (b) environmental certificates, (c) materials challenges surrounding batteries and hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric trucks, (d) investigating the physical properties and structure of lightweight materials, and (e) diagnosing the causes of failure in engineering components using advanced root-cause analysis techniques.Before this role, I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at MIT, where I have a continuing affiliation.

Microstructural Design in Lightweight MaterialsIn parallel with my research on magnesium, aluminum alloys, and composites, I became involved in research on advanced stainless steels for demanding high-temperature applications (a collaboration between the High-Temperature Corrosion Centre (HTC) at Chalmers University and corporate partner Sandvik AB). Our aim was to find ways to improve the high-temperature properties of advanced powder metallurgical (PM) alloys. My role was to mathematically quantify the nanostructure of several high-temperature alloys containing a high density of nano-sized particles rich in the so-called reactive elements (REs: Ce, Y, La, and Zr). This research greatly expanded my research horizons (e.g., from lightweight alloys to advanced steels). It resulted in a high-profile paper: Nature Materials 17 (2018) 610-617. Following this PostDoc period, I received a number of Postdoctoral offers and also three Fellowship Awards from EU (The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions), The Swedish Research Council, and The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.
