My work at Lumileds consists in performing Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) of LED lamps, with a special focus on the end of life phase. The environmental implications of using different substances are compared, which often lead to trade offs between the "use phase" efficiency and manufacturing or "end of life" impacts. Networking and organisation of workshops, case studies, lectures, and excursions related to Circular Economy and sustainability.Our aim is to inspire, connect and show students of Leiden University, TU Delft and Erasmus University Rotterdam, the importance of interdisciplinary work in finding sustainable solutions and achieving a Circular Economy.

During my 3 years at the Hydrobiology Laboratory I mainly worked on research for my hull fouling thesis, in the field of biological invasions, which I successfully defended in March 2014. My work at the lab also lead to an internship at the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research, at the University of Windsor, Canada, through and ELAP scholarship.I also participated in other aquatic ecology research projects. The internship entailed the study of the biological risk posed by hull fouling in freight ships entering the Great Lakes. During my stay I coordinated and sampled cargo ships at the port of Detroit, analyzed samples, and helped in other research projects.

My work consisted mainly in screening blood samples of domestic and feral animals for the presence of T. cruzi DNA. I also participated in broader laboratory activities such as seminars and field research.
