I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at BGSU. I teach physics courses from introductory to graduate level. My research focuses on applied theoretical physics in the fields of condensed matter and semiconductor devices. I enjoy combining analytical modeling and numerical simulation techniques to understand how things works and to predict how unique, novel devices will operate. Overall, my research involves fundamentally understanding optoelectronic devices from the perspective of mathematical modeling. Much of my current research aims at improving solar electricity technology. I try to understand the physics underlying the observations associated with photovoltaic devices. I have the privilege of working closely with scientists at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, funded by the Department of Energy office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. We have been making progress on several types of solar tech, including conventional Silicon devices and second generation, thin-film devices, such as Cadmium Telluride, Perovskites, and Copper Indium Gallium Selenide. My goal is to make significant contributions to this field that can provide sustainable energy at reasonable costs.Teaching is an equally important part of my work. It is exceedingly rewarding and fun to work with students. Professionally, I find that teaching physics at all levels keeps me connected with the fundamentals and reminds me why I enjoy this field of basic science. It is fascinating to learn about how nature works and to realize how much we don't know.
