- Recently started studying embedded development after being interested with microcontrollers (Arduino) and single board computers (Raspberry Pi) and the challenges associated with programming for them.- Research into device driver development within the Linux kernel, learning about the core concepts, looking at simple character devices, the use of platform data and device trees and familiarizing myself with the development lifecycle. - U-Boot bootloader research, learning how the BeagleBone Black performs its boot sequence and the handover to the Linux kernel (ties in with driver & device tree research). A simple LED driver was made for this.- Research into barebones MCU development in the context of the ARM architecture (STM32 platform), including the boot process, building & linking, clock/oscillator management and peripheral I/O using GPIO and I2C.- Socket research where a custom netlink family socket was used to create a simple greetings program, allowing inter-process communication between kernel and userspace.- Developed example project that uses the I2C communication protocol to transfer data from a BeagleBone Black (via kernel module) to a “Blue Pill” STM32 device (barebones application), before finally getting displayed on a SSD1306 OLED display also via I2C.- Developed example project using CMSIS-RTOS v2 / FreeRTOS, DMA, interrupts, nanopb (protobuf) and more with reliable data transmission considerations.- Ongoing research into embedded development, focusing on different communication protocols, RTOS, different MCU’s (ESP32) and more (see blog for updates).
