My experience at Fifth Sun Pictures In 2019, I founded a marketing company that specializes in supporting nonprofits and public schools with marketing and consulting.By leveraging project management software and creating a collaborative company culture, I manage partners, interns, and volunteers. From planning and facilitating trainings to checking-in one-on-one with team members, I enjoy working with social justice-oriented creators and friends. Some of my responsibilities include maintaining robust client relations, developing marketing campaigns, approving payroll, and managing projects. Featured Achievements Securing competitive contracts with the City of Los Angeles and LAUSDCreating a 3-year company plan Assembling a powerful teamSome Challenges Establishing Fifth Sun Pictures has, by far, been the most emotionally, physically , and spiritually challenging initiative that I have led to-date. Since creating the company, I have been a full-time student studying out-of-state (yes that means managing my team and projects remotely and in a different time zone) and have had limited access to start-up capital. Like many student entrepreneurs, there is a long list of late work nights and trial and error to get to this point in my professional career. I thank Marcus Shingles, Sarah Green, Jennifer Naggar, Thiao Lu, Jorge Nuno, Paul Stolkwell, and my business partners Cristian, Noelia, and Pablo for their continued feedback and support. Without them, I would not nearly as much feel empowered to continue pursuing a career in social entrepreneurship.

  • Exponential Destiny
    Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer
    Exponential Destiny Jun 2022 - Dec 2022
Proudly from South Central Los Angeles and an alumni of the Los Angeles public school system, Marco is the Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer at Exponential Destiny. Exponential Destiny is a Los Angeles based 501(c)3 metaverse education nonprofit with a global mission to upskill and reskill low-income young and adult learners into emerging metaverse technology sector jobs. During the pandemic, Marco had an epiphany. He recognized that the launch of the Meta Quest 2, a relatively affordable device that allows users to access the metaverse untethered and essentially functions as a modern day computer, enabled “game changing” immersive and experiential virtual reality learning experiences. In partnership with his Co-Founder and Fortune 100 Executive Consultant Marcus Shingles (who has been mentoring him since he was 15 years old), Marco leverages peer-to-peer education and grass root community organizing to drive his nonprofit work at Exponential Destiny. He is very honored about working in partnerships with the International Telecommunication Union, the specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for many matters related to information and communication technologies (including the metaverse), on the Metaverse for SDGs Global Prize & VR Competition. Prior to establishing Exponential Destiny, Marco served as a nationally recognized leader in the gun violence prevention movement with Everytown for Gun Safety and Students Demand Action. His experience as a gun violence survivor and growing up low-income with undocumented parents has led him to take a grassroots and social entrepreneurship approach towards helping low-income communities like South Central Los Angeles “leapfrog” into career and education opportunities available in the metaverse.

  • Everytown For Gun Safety
Founder & Program Advisor Of Summer Leadership Academy
Everytown For Gun Safety Aug 2022 - Dec 2023
Proudly supporting a network of grassroot students throughout the nation to reduce and end gun violence through the Summer Leadership Academy, a vehicle for building the next generation of leaders for the gun violence prevention movement. AboutA grassroots, evidence-based gun violence prevention initiativeFounded in Summer 2019, and entering into its fifth year in 2023, the Students Demand Action Summer Leadership Academy is an opportunity for youth in communities disproportionately impacted by gun violence to host summer programs to empower low-income high school students and survivors to become community organizers. The initiative prioritizes removing barriers that keep marginalized student leaders from becoming leaders in the gun violence prevention movement. These barriers include access to meals, mentoring, and transportation at no cost to program participants and internship opportunities for student program leaders. Each Summer Leadership Academy program is run by student coordinators (18+) for a week in the summer. Program participants (14-17) are mentored by student coordinators throughout the week and work to build lasting relationships with other students and mentors. Each day of the program lasts from morning until late afternoon—includes meals and transportation to and from the program—and curriculum is curated to the city by program coordinators and Students Demand Action staff. Each program culminates in “Impact Day,” where students present a proposal of an event or idea to carry out with Students Demand Action to educate and activate their peers and community around gun violence prevention. The Summer Leadership Academy is an initiative of Students Demand Action in partnership with Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund.
  • Everytown For Gun Safety
    Founder Of Summer Leadership Academy
Everytown For Gun Safety Apr 2019 - Aug 2022
After bouncing ideas back and forth with Fabian Rivas and Sheila Milon, we designed the Summer Leadership Academy, a summer program enabling students throughout the nation to organize political events against gun violence. We secured funding and support from Everytown for Gun Safety! ( I want to thank Barbara King-Wilson for helping us give back to Los Angeles and for empowering low income first generation students like myself. )SUMMER 2019Students planned community events, interacted with local politicians, and increased their confidence as leaders with South Central Students Demand Action. Students will be eligible to visit Washington D.C on full scholarship to attend Gun Sense University after completing the program.UPDATE #1: The program goes national and virtual during the pandemicFaced with challenge and uncertainty, I navigated the the Summer Leadership Academy though a global pandemic by shifting from in-person organizing to virtual organizing. In this way, 35 student volunteers from Los Angeles and Nashville had the opportunity to develop their leaderships skills and plan events against gun violence via zoom. Students finished the program feeling a strong sense of community and plan to create a school club, executive a proposal (developed during the program), or get involved with other Students Demand Action Initiatives. One Challenge During the PandemicPrior to the pandemic, the program was on schedule to expand from 1 summer program to 4 summer programs. The pandemic regrettably forced two of our program to be cancelled. From this challenge I learned that team capacity can shift and that the team leader must be adaptable. The Future I plan to expand the Summer Leadership Academy to five cities in Summer 2021.
