About Marco Frazão Pedroso

With more than a decade of experience in research and development for sustainability, and circular economy in the built environment, I am a passionate researcher and co-Founder & Partner at AECycle, an IST spin-off in this field, and recognized Senior Civil Engineer.Helping companies, and other entities, to achieve their sustainability, circular economy, and ESG goals. I hold a 5-year Degree, a MSc and a PhD in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), where I developed and patented a novel mat manufacturing process for sound absorption and thermal insulation, using bio-based and recycled materials. I also have extensive knowledge and practice in life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle impact assessment (LCIA), and life cycle costing (LCC) of products and constructive systems, using SimaPro software.As the Head of Sustainability at BUILT CoLAB, I led and contributed to various projects that aimed to promote circularity, digitalization, and green transition in the Portuguese construction sector. One of the most notable outcomes of my work was the publication of the Portuguese Action Plan for Circularity in Construction, a collaborative and strategic document that provides guidelines and recommendations for stakeholders and policymakers. I also collaborated with CERIS, a research center for civil engineering and sustainability at IST, and Saint Gobain-Weber, a leading manufacturer of building materials. My main interests and goals are to advance the knowledge and practice of sustainability assessment and circular economy in the built environment, and to create innovative and efficient solutions that minimize economic costs and maximizes the benefits to the society and the environment.
