About Marco Mulas
I came across CFD at Stanford in the late 80s. By chance. That was the place no.1 at that time. After completing my Master Degree, I kept the momentun and moved to Brussels, at the VKI first and then by prof. Hirsch department. In Brussels I witnessed the development of the European CFD, funded by the EU Commission. That period lasted just a few years, but I happened to be in the right place at the right time. With CFD development I felt like a fish in the water. I made it my career.I have always hated making grid generation though. Too messy, too time consuming, and never satisfactory. And I never learnt how to use them. I also hated using complicated softwares where you happen to go through exactly the same sequence of a million clicks on a million pop up menus. Over and over again. I did not understand why it couldn't be possibile to do it with just a few mouse clicks.I owe to my laziness, the efforts I put to make CFD easier and quicker. Much easier and much quicker.A CFD analyst hates spending hours and days to change the design setup in order to see how the new results are. With our unique CFD technology it takes minutes!I believe that this is what the users want. And that is why I became an entrepreneur.
Listed skills include Cfd, Fluid Dynamics, Simulations, High Performance Computing, and 17 others.

Chairperson
CurrentAt Vento-CFD we deeply transformed the way CFD analysis can be done. We based our software on the Immersed Boundary technique and on what we called "layouts", the software "appification" ante litteram. It took me more than a dozen years to develop and improve our own IB technique well beyond today's state of art to eventually reach unparalleled speed and ease-of-use.The preparation of cases of normal and high geometrical complexity, which may take hours and days with the most popular CFD products, are done in less than 10 minutes with VENTO software. Our latest version, IB 2.0, is capable of identifying all sub-grid geometrical scales, and treat them appropriately, without the need of spending hours and days for cleaning the geometry, reaching amazing and unbelievable levels of robustness and accuracy.VENTO AEC product is the first CFD software exclusively developed for Architects and Constrution Engineers, capable of importing BIM-IFC files.VENTO (with the orange interface) and VENTO AEC (with a blue interface) both integrate the “piccolo CAD" a tool that allows to import, simplify and possibly adjust IGES, BREP and STEP files.
Lectures On Numerical Methods For Heat Transfer And Fluid Flow Applications
This is a collaboration with prof. G. Lorenzini who teaches the heat transfer and thermo fluid dynamics class (Fisica Tecnica in Italian). The purpose is to introduce the methods of numerical analysis for the solution of the heat equation, and to actually write a Fortran 90 code with a variety of Boundary Conditions for educational purposes. I love to teach students.
Principal
I spent one and a half year pushing the R&D on the Immersed Boundary technique . Since my years at CRS4, I am likely to have accumulated more hours on that subjects than anyone else. The result was a completely revised CFD code together with a new design for a Graphical User Interface. The R&D on IB method and on innovative CFD continues at Vento, my new enterprise.
Founder And Chairman
Five tough years, challenging, intense, consuming. I raised more than 3 million € from a dozen private investors and one VC company, as well as more than 1 million € of public funding. I learnt more in these five years than in the rest of my life, and I am not only referring to CFD and business. Then the business initiative came to an end for many reasons.
Senior Researcher And Group Leader
I spent almost 17 years at CRS4, the Sardianian Research centre founded by Physics Nobel Prize winner Carlo Rubbia. I was head of the CFD group for the last 9 years and, together with my staff I enjoyed developing algorithms and methodologies for new problems. Among them: a 1D transient CFD code for the Blue Stream project (commissioned by ENI and Gazprom), a quasi 3D CFD code for fuel cell stacks (together with a colleague expert in membrane analytical modelling), and the P242 project, directed by Carlo Rubbia, where we coupled a NS code with a Montecarlo code for non conventional nuclear space propulsion. The entire idea as well as the Montecarlo code were Rubbia's. In 2005 I was the local organizer and chairman, together with prof. W. Rodi of the University of Karlsruhe, of 6th International Symposium on Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Measurements, which took place in Villasimius, Sardinia.During the final years at CRS4 I started my R&D on the Immersed Boundary technique that I used to innovate the CFD software. At that time I invented the "layouts", the CFD "appification" ante litteram, as it is now called. That work became the basis to start my new career as startupper and entrepreneur.
Post Doctoral Marie Curie Fellowship
This was a great opportunity to work on a CFD code developed in C++. I saw the light of Object Orientation! From then on, code development became a real fun. Much more than before.
