M. Sc. Student

As a Master's Degree student, I acquired theoretical and computational competences in the fields of Physics of Complex Systems and Computational Physics for Systems Modelling throughout the intense Master of Science offered by the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) in collaboration with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).I gained both disciplinary skills and meta-competences, as well as interdisciplinary insights involvingComplex Systems science. Thus I got the necessary methodological and modeling instrument to study, analyse and simulate the behavior of a wide range of heterogeneous systems. Examples range from phase transitions in the self-organized behavior of neurons in the brain to the complex cooperative phenomena in ant colonies, human cities or social and political structures. My Master thesis allowed me to focus on the effect of applying Complexity Theory to Computational Social Science: it revolved around a theoretical and computational study of opinion dynamics and emergent behaviors for consensus formation in the noisy Voter Model with contrarian agents.
