Responsible for multiple projects simultaneously.1) Over the top x86 based CE3100 (Intel Pentium M-core) set-top box for consumer applications. The product is capable of handling full HDTV (1080p@59.94Hz). It consists of DDR2 memory, and several flash memories for boot and storage purposes. It is equipped with a variety of I/O, among others, USB 2.0, 1GbE, uSim, SD/MMC, SATA and DVB-in. This development is a drop-in replacement into an already existing enclosure. Besides hardware also firmware development of the management controller was done.2) DVB C/T Tuner which can be fitted on to the CE3100 (and future variants) set-top-boxes to enable receive DVB-C or DVB-T. Besides hardware Prodrive also developed the software, including an API.3) x86 based CE4100 (Intel Atom core) set-top box which is the successor of CE3100 set-top-box. This architecture is based on the Intel Atom core and therefore differs from the predessor. It is cappable of working with DDR3 memory. Beside a full-HD video output, it also has full-HD video input. The firmware development has also been developed at Prodrive.4) Enclosure to suit CE3100 and CE4100 mainboards for consumer set-top box purposes. Main driver is costs, therefore it is chosen to go for plastics. Enclosure is very small, so that the mainboard including a optional DVB C/T Tuner and a 2.5" HDD or SSD can be packed together very dense.5) Hospital BoxPC. It is based on a x86 (Atom) architecture, equipped with DDR2 memory and SSD storage. It serves as a computing platform for a hospital environment. Typical applications include VoIP, IPTV, Citrix client and web browsing. It has an aluminium moulded and powdercoated slim enclosure, which is also developed at Prodrive. The products complies with the IEC-60601 medical standards. Next to the mechanical and electrical parts, also the firmware and FGPA code were part of this project.6) Hospital Terminal. 15.4" IP54 medical certified display with touchscreen, including enclosure.

2008:Development of a Video Processing Architecture or VPA. It is a next generation, modular and high-defenition intellegent camera system, consisting of multiple boardss. The system is designed for audio and video capturing, compression, event detection with content analysis and streaming of audio/video over IP. Processing is done in a Stretch RISC processor, coupled to DDR2 memory. The video content analysis is done via a TI DSP, coupled to DDR2 SDRAM. The board is equipped with 10/100 Ethernet. I focussed mainly on the complete power architecture, including the design of a Power over Ethernet function, which was new at that time for Prodrive. Next to the theoritical design (simulations and calculations), I also did a part of the schematics and the PCB design, followed by extensive qualification on a prototype.2009:Development of a x86 (Atom based) generic computing platform, equipped with DDR2 memory and SSD storage. It serves as a computing platform for a hospital environment together with a custom developed display. Typical applications include VoIP, IPTV, Citrix client and web browsing. I mainly focussed on the power distribution and the power supplies design. Due to a fanless design, the main challenge was to design highly efficient PSU's. Therefore it included a VID regulator for the x86 main processor. Next to the theoritical design (simulations and calculations), I also did a part of the schematics and the PCB design, followed by extensive qualification on a prototype.

Chair Of Data Center Compute And Networking (Dccn) Task Group

RapidIO.org, the organization that promotes and develops standards for the RapidIO interconnect architecture announces the first draft of the reference design released by the Data Center Compute and Networking Task Group (DCCN). The group, utilized initial contributions by several member companies including the founding task group members from Freescale, IDT, Prodrive, Mobiveil and the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras. With the initial draft reference designs, the DCCN Task Group has developed a proof of concept for Server, Data Center and Supercomputing markets that showcases the strength of the entire RapidIO ecosystem.Once completed the first reference design will be vendor and processor agnostic, and the output will be made available to other open standards in the computing industry (e.g. Open Compute Project and Scorpio) and will also be available for use by OEM's of computing and data center infrastructure, research labs and government organizations. RTA members interested in contributing to the reference designs being developed should contact the DCCN Task Group chair, Marco Rietveld (dccn-chair@rapidio.org). The RTA also encourages semiconductor, software and systems companies to join the RTA to bring their inputs into the direction of this project.
