Marcos Dias is an Assistant Professor at the School of Communications, Dublin City University. He completed a PhD in Media Studies in the University of Melbourne, Australia in 2015 and also holds a MSc with Distinction in Interactive Digital Media from Trinity College Dublin. His research investigates the social and spatial impact of digital technologies in the contemporary mediated city. As part of his PhD thesis, Marcos conducted ethnographic research on Blast Theory’s participatory art project A Machine to See With. Marcos is currently working on the manuscript for his forthcoming book - The Machinic City: Media, Performance and Participation - to be published by Manchester University Press in 2019. He is available to supervise multidisciplinary PhD projects that combine media and urban studies, with a particular focus on the impact of digital technologies in urban space and also the role of public play and participatory art interventions in the city.Marcos teaches on the BSc in Multimedia programme across a range of modules, including Information Design, Emerging Media and New Media and Society. Prior to joining DCU, he was Lecturer in Media Studies in Maynooth University and Assistant Lecturer and Programme Director for the BA in Communications in Creative Media in DkIT. Marcos also holds a BA in Architecture and City Planning (University of Sao Paulo, Brazil) and a BA in Digital Media Design and Production-First Class Honours (Letterkenny Institute of Technology). He has previously worked as an architect and web designer and was an Editorial Board Member of the Platform Journal of Media and Communications (2010-2011). He is currently a member of the ECREA Working Group Media and the City.
