Served as an interviewee on TV/radio programs. Led establishment of a new Charities' website. Arranged and coordinated support of Charities' online media from Smart Chicago Collaborative. Upgraded the website to include advertising, parade promotion with WLS-TV and corrections to web host problems. Planned and executed the Bud Billiken® Parade. Increased parade registration, and improved administrative procedures and agreements with agencies. Published and monitored a list of parade projects and assigned staff. Arranged participation, logistics and accommodations for HBCU Presidents and other guests. Developed contingency plans for the possible participation of President Obama in the parade. PROJECT MANAGER, ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (IIT) FOR THE AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACTObtained $300K in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy for development of a strategy for energy efficiency and material conservation, and development and installation of an on-campus, in-vessel composting operation. Established agreements between IIT and other organizations to secure their cooperation. Developed and presented countywide a plan for economic development. Achieved preliminary support from DOE for energy generation using biomass fuel by a special presentation to DOE, Robbins Community Power and others. Expanded awareness of the Cook County / IIT collaboration by presentations to all municipal COGs, the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce, and the IIT Campus Sustainability Forum. IMPROVED PROCESSING OF PERMITS FOR ASBESTOS REMOVAL AND DEMOLITION BY CONVERTING FROM PAPER FORM TO A MICROSOFT ACCESS DATABASESuccessfully transferred the annual generation of $2.1M in revenue and processing of 3,000 permits. Trained and directed staff to manage operations. Added new capabilities and reports to monitor and administer activities. Eliminated steps and simplified procedures for depositing permit fees. Protected interests of producers of the Bud Billiken Parade by developing the first written agreement with the TV production company for broadcast of the parade after twenty years of non-written agreements. Guaranteed contributions of $50K from the broadcast. For the first time, marketed the Chicago Defender Charities as producers of the parade. Improved appearance of the parade for the two million member television audience and 500,000 other viewers. Improved activities for 30,000 participants in the staging area by thoroughly defining, documenting and implementing new procedures. Improved parade administration by converting processing from paper to electronic form. Established free and extensive publicity of the Chicago Defender on major radio and TV stations by mutual cooperation. Established new, inexpensive sources of editorial material by arranging for youth to meet and interview radio and TV personalities and contribute to the paper's youth section. Expanded staffing at low cost by using college interns. Initiated use of email. Successfully directed and transferred the Christmas Food Giveaway, serving 1,500 recipients, to a new location. Eliminated problems with the Bud Billiken Music Festival for an audience of 40,000. Improved structure and effectiveness of promotional contests involving over 100 contestants.
