I have been in the venture capital industry for nearly thirty years, having joined a venture firm in the early ‘90s straight out of undergrad, when the venture and entrepreneurial ecosystems were very different (perhaps explaining why someone with no real experience could get a job in VC) and I was asked for ID at board dinners. I benefited from great mentors and subsequently co-founded two venture firms, including Osage University Partners (OUP) in 2009. OUP focuses on investing in companies that are turning ground-breaking university research into game-changing products. University discoveries do not instantaneously transform into great products that enterprises go out of their way to purchase. OUP has developed extensive knowledge and a few battle scars regarding how to translate technology into products, and how to find the right market for those products. We invest at lots of stages, from hands-on seed stage investing to later stage growth rounds. OUP is also mission driven to help the university entrepreneurial ecosystem.Through my career, I have invested in over seventy companies across multiple sectors, including software, hardware, cleantech, life science, and way back when, consumer.
