Investigated the role that iron played in the origin and proliferation of life on Earth by expanding our understanding of iron in extant microbial ecology, physiology, and biochemistry.Position Details:Designed and maintained batch incubations of anoxic lake sediment over multiple years under different conditions.Set up and maintained continuous anaerobic bioreactor system. Used available bioinformatic software to analyze amplicon and metagenomic data. Redesigned commercially available reagents and kits for use under unorthodox conditions (anoxic, high iron).Designed and implemented procedure for growth of bacteria and purification of ribosomes under anoxia.
