Instrument Lead engineer for a Methanol plant and Methanol to Propylene plant for BASF (This would be BASF’s largest single-plant investment to date). Manage an international team of 12 instrument engineers.Responsible for interface coordination with all disciplines, with client and all subcontractors for all instrumentation related communication and/or discussions.Review and approve all engineering related to instrumentation and process control.Participation in P&ID reviews with operation and HAZOP meetings.Develop advanced control strategies and safety concepts. Preparation of a ±10% cost estimate.

Process controls engineer for the replacement of a Siemens control system with a Honeywell control system. The Siemens system had approx.. 60.000 I/O’s. Responsible for the reverse engineering, safety approvals with authorities (TÜV), HAZOP and LOPA studies. Additional tasks were process optimization incl. operator training, Root cause failure analysis of plant trips etc. Mayor process units: Sulfinol units, SRU (Sulphur recovery Units), steam generators, ASU, Truck and rail loading facilities, tank farm management, compressor stations.

Commissioning of a CO plant in Al Jubail. Special focus on machinery control for 3 turbo compressors (including steam turbine control) and 5 piston compressors.

Instrument Lead engineer for the project development of a “Methanol plant on a ship” or FSPO (Floating Storage Production and Offloading facility). Investigation of all instrument related issues for the maritimization of the Methanol process. This project was cancelled due to the economic crisis

Commissioning and trouble shooting of a Hydrogen plant in Melakka, Malaysia. Special focus on incident investigation and root cause analysis after a catalyst damage.

Instrument Lead engineer for a 5000T/d Methanol plant for PETRONAS. Manage a team of up to 20 instrument engineers for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. Review and approve all engineering related to instrumentation, process control and process analysis. Responsible for interface with all disciplines (Lurgi internal), with client and all subcontractors for all instrumentation related communication and/or discussions.

Detailed coordination of all vendors for turbo machinery control. This included 3 steam turbine driven compressors, 7 small steam turbines as well as a 20MW power generation unit. Factory Acceptance Testing, Construction supervision and commissioning.
