In this role I have lead and worked within teams to develop products that allow for the automation of physical transactions, these include cash handling systems, cashless systems, facial recognition and age verification projects. My role has generally been focused on the concept phases of these products, where I have been trusted to develop the groundwork and plans for projects that may later be handed over to our production engineering team. Although I have specialized in concept development, I also have experience overseeing projects all the way through production and have worked on modifications and improvements to released products.In this role as a mechanical design engineer I have experience designing parts and assemblies using the CAD systems Siemens NX11, whilst using the file management software Teamcenter. In this role I have developed my proficiency in 3D design and 2D drafting as well as analysis in FEA and Moldflow. High quality prototyping is also a key aspect of this role, some of the prototyping methods I have used in this role are FDM printing, Selective Laser Sintering, Stereolithography, metal 3D printing and manual machining either myself or through instructing workshop technicians. Once I have produced a prototype it has then been my responsibility to test and scrutinize these prototypes to determine if anything needs to be improved and if another iteration should be developed. Design for manufacture is also a critical aspect of this role as these products are generally mass manufactured in their 100,000's or millions. Once a part has been completed the files are sent to our sister company in China where they are produced. International communications are also key for this role to oversee that parts are manufactured to standard. From working in this role I am proficient in the design for manufacture of injection molded plastics, sheet metal, stamped, machined and die-cast parts.

In this role it was my responsibility to travel to customers and to design projects based on the customers specification. As such it was critical that I was able to listen and understand what the customer wanted as well as to be able to communicate my ideas clearly to them.Time management was also critical as I may have had multiple appointments in a day, which meant that planning ahead was important to ensure that I had time to complete each appointment with time to then reach the next appointment. These appointments were regularly booked for me by my team of three staff, which meant it was important for me to train and manage my team well to ensure that these appointments were clearly defined and the appointments were arranged with correct time allocations.
