The PMTC Plate shop Laboratory Support group is responsible for the PM of all equipment andanalysis of all chemicals used in the PMTC Plate Shop. The Laboratory is responsible forreplenishing precious metal baths and liaises with Maintenance Department to ensure that allchemical baths are in compliance. Analysis include: pH, Titration, Density, Surface Tension andAES (Atomic Emission Spectroscopy).

The PMTC Plate Shop Platers coat precious metals on to various metal parts that will becomecomponents for a multitude of electronic instruments.Electroplating is a wet process, all parts are submerged into a collection of chemical baths in aspecific order and an electronic current is applied following a detailed documented procedure.Along with electric hazards, the chemicals in the Shop are hazardous/poisonous, while there arecontrols in place to minimize the risk to Platers, the area still demands a high level of awareness ofyour surroundings while working.Platers identify and weed out any defects by inspecting the finished parts using a low powermicroscopes and work with Engineers on continually improving part quality and documentation that accompanies it.
