I have master's and bachelor's degrees from Tarleton State University in Environmental Science and Chemistry respectively. In my undergraduate studies, I was a member of the Honors College at Tarleton State University and was an active member of the student chapter of the American Chemical Society. As part of this group, I participated in outreach with the local elementary school to conduct age-appropriate chemistry demonstrations to hopefully spark an interest in science in the students. I performed undergraduate and masters level research under Dr. WIlliam Lance Whaley on projects involving flavonoid compounds. I started with the extraction and isolation of osajin and pomiferin from Osage orange fruit tissues at varying levels of maturity before moving to the determination of partition and distribution coefficients for both of those compounds as well as simple monohydroxyflavones. I even had the opportunity to present the research conducted by our group at the American Chemical Society Spring National Meeting in 2019. In my master's thesis research, I moved to disubstituted flavonoid compounds and found not just the partition/distribution coefficient but also the hydrogen bonding acidity. This was to compare the experimental values with those found using the Abraham General Solvation Equation.
