My responsibility was to develop and deliver a silica-based material for loading and controlled-release of plasticizers and antioxidants for the restoration of modern and contemporary art. We used several different techniques to make silica particles loaded with the plasticizer or antioxidant, e.g. soaking during different conditions and emulsification of silica nanoparticles and the plasticizer. For the controlled-release we constructed a lid using polyelectrolytes around the loaded particles.
