Assist in the planning and day to to activities for a construction and design camp. The purpose of the camp is to expose high-school students with an interest in the trades to different real world opportunities through different tours and work shops. The students will get the opportunity to meet and speak with potential employers in several different trades. The camp will also have several different project where I will assist in teaching the students hands on skills as well as proper safety technique when using power tools. The students will be building two custom cabinets and a custom bench for a neighboring Journey House Cafe, as well as several smaller wood projects that are to be sold at the cafe. I was most involved in the planning and execution of our capstone project, a storage shed for lawn mowers. I was responsible for designing, estimating, and order materials and tools need for the project. I will then lead the students through the process of framing the walls, floors, and roof trusses. I will also teach the students to shingle a roof and frame out for a garage door.

I work with several partners to lead a group of Milwaukee Public School students through a month long design/build camp. I served primarily as a mentor and councilor for the first week while I was able to add more design experience along side the student. I played a key role in the final three weeks of the camp, taking on a lead position during the building portion I was tasked with helping teach the students how to safely and efficiently build as a team. I was also often leaned on to come up with creative solution to problems we faced on site. At the end of our month we had successfully designed and built two pavilions that double as water collection systems for a local community garden.
