My father was often described as the kind of guy that you liked from the first handshake, and it served him very well in his sales career. Every day, in what is now my profession, I remember the lessons that he taught me and use them to the best of my ability. Here are some quick things about me:1) I love to sell, and I'm good at what I do. I've been in sales with my current company for 19 years and have been in the top 10% of North America for all 19 years. My list of customers ranges from large Healthcare facilities to small outpatient clinics. I've handled college universities and K12 schools. My customers include Industrial sites to Class A office spaces and everything in between. 2) After my freshman year of college, my guidance counselor told me that "college wasn't for everyone." Heeding this advice, I spent several years in the United States Army. This is one of things that I am most proud of. The Army gave me the discipline and drive that still burn in me today.3) I rented cars for a living in a former life. Truly, if you can sell Collision Damage Waiver to someone, you can sell just about anything.4) 7 years ago, my 13 year old daughter was diagnosed with cancer. I spent the better part of the next 4 years with the constant thought of her potential death in the very front of my mind. Subsequently, I've learned to never let the small things bother me or take time away from me. I will quickly qualify an opportunity and will move on if I cannot provide an appropriate solution. Note: My daughter received a bone marrow transplant from her little brother and is now in nursing school.5) See my accomplishment in Item 1. Notice I did that during Item 4 as well. This was not due to my sales abilities. This was because I leaned on my fantastic team during this time, and it's a lesson I'll never forget. Give others a chance and support them. They will rise up and help win a job. Rarely is a sale made alone, and it's much harder when it is. Celebrating the wins during this time were some of the best memories of my career.6) I believe the key to be a good salesperson is listening, not talking.
