I am a researcher in the field of applied mathematics. The focus lies on machine learning and AI which most often reduces to uncertainty quantification and constrained function optimization. The functions of interest generally arise either from physical forward operators, which have to be found and solved numerically, from data operators, which are built by developing and using machine learning techniques, or a combination of both. To perform a derivative-based optimization, the forward and adjoint operators have to be derived and solved very efficiently which has allowed me to become very familiar with high-performance computing methods and architectures. Both types of operators, data-driven and physical, often need a firm understanding of probability theory and statistics. My knowledge has helped me in the past to make significant contributions in the fields of numerical solutions of PDEs, mathematical optimization, and autonomous steering of experiments. Currently, I am fascinated by Gaussian processes for machine learning and the underlying function spaces.
Listed skills include Numerical Mathematics, Nonlinear Optimization, Parallel Programming, Gpu, and 24 others.
