About Marcus Muller

After I graduated from the University of Minnesota, I started working at the Hartford in 2007 in Hartleave as an entry level analyst. I processed both Short Term Disability (STD) and Family Medical Leave (FML) and fielded incoming calls. I left the Hartford for a short period of time and worked for North Saint Paul High School as a paraprofessional. I assisted teachers in Emotional Behavioral Disorder Classrooms and guided students throughout their day. After that, I went back to the Hartford and joined their Leave Management (LM) Department and handled FML only. I continued to grow a career in the LM department and progressed into a Team Leader role in 2012. I had a team that was fully remote and I had to use the technology we have to help keep the morale up and the team engaged. In April 2016, I transitioned to an Long Term Disability (LTD) Analyst role. In July of 2017, I started a position at the University of Minnesota and began building a career there. In January 2020, I transitioned to the University of Minnesota Morris as the Director of their Office of the Registrar. I had the unique experience of helping the institution to transition to completely online during the pandemic and continued to work with many departments/committees to address changed that were needed to allow the institution to be successful. When I am not working, you will likely find me with my family (wife, son and daughter) out on the boat, fishing off a shoreline or walking the dog.

Listed skills include Leadership, Customer Service, Insurance, Management, and 10 others.

I directly supervised Office of the Registrar professional staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance management/evaluations, coaching, etc. I solved escalated, complex issues using professional judgment and individual discretion. I served as the Office of the Registrar representative or key stakeholder on Morris Academic Support Resources, University-wide, and system-wide committees including Scholastic Committee, Curriculum Committee, Academic Recovery Coach and the Writng Board. I served as the Morris expert or point person for implementation of changes to processes and procedures. Examples include, but are not limited to: FERPA, Academic Policy, Onboarding new systems. Within this role, I was responsible for reviewing incoming information to assist students with updating student records and track their degree progression. Additionally, I reviewed engagement scores and created plan to increase department morale, reviewed potential candidates for possible tuition assistance and I assisted students with enrolling them at other colleges and ensured their U of MN records reflected the accurate courses, grades, and completion date

Feb 2019 - Jan 2020

I served as a direct contact within the Office of the Registrar for multiple colleges. I resolved escalated customer service concerns. I worked within many different programs including Google, PeopleSoft, SalesForce, and utilized University programs like APLUS, APAS, ECAS, and MyU.

Jul 2017 - Feb 2019

Long Term Disability Senior Ability Analyst

Bloomington, Minnesota

I process and review medical information to make decisions on Long Term Disability claims. I take incoming phone calls and use my customer service skills to answer questions from claimants and employers. I became the Lead Chair for a local Employee Resource Group called Young Professionals (YoPro's). YoPro's is a group dedicated to helping individuals within the Hartford improve their careers while giving back to the local community. We do this by organizing network events, career fairs, specific skill workshops and community outreach events.

Apr 2016 - Jul 2017

Leave Management Team Leader

I lead a team of analysts, both in office and remotely. I trained them on how to do their job and coached them to be successful. I helped find them exposure to different tasks to help grow their careers. Occasionally I took escalated calls from both employers and claimants and would use problem solving skills to find solutions to their concerns. I worked with many different contacts in our organization to improve our process and retain business. I handled performance and behavioral management. I processed pay raise and bonuses. I perform job interviews and help select the best candidates for our open positions and on boarded multiple new hires. One thing that I was challenged with was ensuring my team was engaged and morale was high. At the Hartford, we send out 2 surveys a year, to identify areas of concern and confirm what our current "engagement score" is at. When I first became a Team Leader, my team had very low scores. I would average a score of 20 percent positive. Over the next 6 months, I addressed ongoing concerns by creating an open door policy which allowed my team to talk to me about anything. I also found ways to help them build a career within the Hartford. As a team, we developed an action plan on what the team can do to ensure morale was high and everyone felt engaged. After these activities and the development of the action plan, we were able to increase our score to above 90 percent positive, and it remained above 90 percent until I left the role. As a Team Leader, I increased my participation in the Employee Resource Group YoPro's. I joined the national committee and was selected to be the Chair for the Field Offices Community Outreach. The National YoPro's was trying to mix in and highlight events from all field offices, not just the home office. I was challenged to organize community outreach events at a national level.

Apr 2012 - Apr 2016

Absence Coordinator

I processed and reviewed medical information to make decisions on Family Medical Leave and Short Term Disability claims. I took incoming phone calls and used my customer service skills to answer questions from claimants and employers. I interpreted different policies and Family Medical Leave laws. Due to my strong quality and great customer service, I was selected to be a part of the first Employer Dedicated LM Team. I was apart of that team until I got promoted to Team Leader. As an analyst, I joined a local Employee Resource Group called YoPros. I was asked to lead the Community Outreach chapter of YoPros. I was challenged to find community outreach opportunities that our office would want to support. I created and organized charitable walks, set up events at Feed My Starving Children, and organized fundraiser and/or clothing/toy drives.
