I joined the research graduate programme at BT and worked on a wide range of topics in the access network team. This involved programming in R, building various machine learning models and focusing on data science techniques to solve complicated business problems. More specifically, I built up knowledge of neural networks, and classifier algorithms such as logistic regression, support vector machines (SVM) and decision tree based models.My work was more wide reaching than this however, I also developed through graduate training events and was involved with ambassadorial events for BT.

Following on from my volunteering work at University, I secured the role of a Refresh Your Maths Tutor, with the objective of helping students from non-mathematical backgrounds to improve their scores in numerical reasoning tests and the QTS numeracy skills test (required for teaching).Within this role, I would run sessions in a pair, targeting techniques and background knowledge required to perform at the highest level within these tests to students at the University of Exeter.This role highlighted my abilities to communicate ideas effectively, especially given that many students had alternative academic interests and had not done this style of mathematics since they left secondary school. It was also rewarding to teach in a pair, with different styles of planning and teamwork required to successfully deliver sessions.My personal highlight within this role was to find that following my help at one of the sessions, one of the attendees received a graduate job offer having formerly been rejected often at the initial rounds of numerical reasoning tests with other companies.
