Sensor Technicians provide Wide Area Network (WAN) sensor operations and maintenance support functions for 33 NWS DCO distributed mission equipment. They are responsible for installation for installation, operation, maintenance, and management of the DCIO sensor fleet of the network intrusion Detection Sensors (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention Sensors (IPS) and troubleshoot IDS/IPS sensors/Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances (ASA), and database outages to restore connectivity or repair hardware outages. Sensor technicians maintain IDS/IPS sensors, build and maintain IDS/IPS configurations, and ensure signatures are properly placed and maintained on sensors. They also provide rapid support for operators experiencing technical difficulties with client software, test and install signatures, software updates, and patches as they are released from the vendor. Sensor technicians are responsible for 4 main areas, NIPR IPS/IDS/SIPR IPS/IDS, SIEM, and JRSS. NIPR IPS/IDS sensor technicians are responsible for monitoring and sustaining ENFAAS, Cybersecurity service provider (CSSP) Mission, and IOP devices/connectors. The ENFASS sensor technicians must gather and break out processes on the manager, review individual system health files, and troubleshoot feeds and queries. For the CSSP Mission they must monitor and sustain CSSP Palo Alto’s while, also updating signatures on the Palo Alto. Under IOP, sensor technicians are responsible for monitoring and sustaining Fidelis AirGaps updates.
