Mechanical Design EngineerHaley Mfg Mar 2018 - Mar 2021Yakima, Washington AreaMy history with Haley MFG goes back to an internship that I had just out of college with the former owner Bob Bader. I worked on lightening (and therefore lowering the raw material cost) a cherry drencher (the equipment used to cool cherries just after picking during the cherry harvest). I met the current owner while working at Magic Metals, Inc.The main focus of this job was the redesign of an irrigation filter using more modern techniques/equipment from partner suppliers and materials that didn't need secondary operations (paint). The positive end of this redesign was significantly cutting the fabrication time down (close to half), and greatly reducing turnaround time to the customer during peak season.

Mechanical Engineer & Project EngineerCascade Quality Molding Jul 2015 - Dec 2016Yakima, WaThis job allowed me several new experiences including fixture design (end-of-arm robot, adhesive-applying robot, curing, screw insertion machine, post-mold machining), project management of injection mold tooling packages, urethane casting, injection mold part design, First Article Inspections (FAI) of new injection molded parts and project management in a cross-cultural/international context. The job ended on a great note. We ran a job of building molds for 12 different engineering-grade plastic parts that are highly complicated and geometrically complex. Every mold was built on time and every part came out of each mold in spec on the first run.

Most of my time was spent working with the customer's design teams, developing the sheet metal and machined components from their concepts or prototypes. I had a chance to perform some really cool work here including:-A commercial/retail bread making machine (prototypes 2 & 3 for Wilkinson Baking, www.wilkinsonbaking.com/)-Diesel emissions servicing equipment (reverse engineer to design for manufacture for FSX, www.fsxinc.com)-An innovative bio-reactor (I was the third person to be part of the team developing brand-new technology for bio-reactors (used for making medications) with PBS Biotech, www.pbsbiotech.com)I greatly appreciate the support and guidance from the programming department, press brake operators, machinists, welders, assemblers, production therapist (John Utzler), and engineering department lead (James) with on all engineering projects. -

I was the first person the founder, Tim Andis, brought on the team, and it was rewarding to see something we designed being sold in stores.

In middle school, I began sales and wrenching, then moved on to running the Sunday crew and BMX team in high school. By the time I was attending community college, I was working in the shop full-time. Once I had my driver's license, I was involved in supporting the charity bicycle rides and races around the Yakima Valley, which I enjoyed so much that I kept representing the bicycle shop during those events until 2016.
