I led a dedicated skilled team who undertook various pivotal Engineering, Maintenance and Operational activities to support the running of the new metro. These included successful delivery of Asset Engineering Management Plans in line with ISO 55001, manage all engineering changes, incident investigation, performance analysis and network maintenance possession management. Projects included development of a new condition-based monitoring system and an Enterprise Asset Management System (Ellipse) $2.5M upgrade.

I was Asset Management and Maintenance lead in Australia. In addition to developing this business area, I managed teams responsible for various projects, including Asset Management on two separate Joint Venture Road Management Projects in Sydney and Melbourne, development of the Rolling Stock standards currently being used by Yarra Trams and a joint task with Deloitte to deliver organisational transformation of the Asset Management, Engineering and Maintenance Directorates at Sydney Trains.

I was tasked with revitalising and leading TfL’s Rail Projects Development and Delivery Teams. I led 120+ staff across three operation lines, guiding teams to safely deliver 130+ projects exceeding £140m on infrastructure and rolling stock assets, from train overhauls to brand new stations. I also worked with TfL Sponsors, Finance and other departments to produce 10 and 20-year capital investment project programmes, and chaired Tier 1 and 2 Contractor dispute resolution meetings.

My mandate included working closely with the Franchisee to develop rolling stock engineering, maintenance and asset management strategies and plans, then ensure they implemented these successfully to meet the contract KPI’s. I was responsible for developing a 10-year rolling stock asset investment programme, all rolling stock incident investigations and supporting crisis management events, including TfL lead for two critical DLR bogie and body fatigue failures while successfully ensuring a safe passenger service was still provided. I was also Engineering Lead for the New DLR Trains and Depot upgrade project.

Responsible for leadership and safety of a diverse team of 40+ staff, to maintain 108 trucks and 130 trailers at three facilities.

United Kingdom

Led a team of 20 technical and non-technical staff to introduce 30 built trains into passenger service and set up a £2 million warranty and material provision facility to support the new trains. The contract included delivery of RailTrack Safety Case certification for each train, each requiring development testing, modifications and commissioning.

Project managed the receipt, commissioning and modification of a new £177 million Jubilee Line 59-train fleet into passenger service, as part of the Jubilee Line Extension Project, with all support functions in place.

London Underground Northern Line Upgrade Programme - £35 million depot upgrade in preparation for new Northern Line fleet. I produced concept design for the depot track layout, facilities, plant and equipment based on operational requirements and a 20-year maintenance strategy. Then worked with Depot Management, Civil Engineering contractor (AMEC) and LU through detail design and construction. I published a paper on the depot upgrade in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit, March 1998.

Operated within a team of UK and overseas specialist Engineers to:- Statically and dynamically test, modify, undertake detailed fault investigation, fault free running and any necessary rectification work for asset handover.- Review and amend train maintenance manuals and drawings, publication of test calculations, test results and certificates required to demonstrate RAMS compliance.
