Vocational Coordinator
CurrentStraight Ahead is a faith-based organization offering a community of care for justice-involved youth. Around 450,000 youth are connected with the juvenile justice system each year. Most already live at the center of the poverty, abuse, and violence that produces trauma, distress and division in our communities. Involvement in the justice system further disrupts their lives, educations, family connections. They exhibit higher rates of trauma than any other youth population in the country. We connect with these young people and forge relationships that introduce hope, offer healing, and create pathways to change. Some of these pathways include: Vocational discipleship, Bible studies and group discussions, getting them involved serving the community, and just having fun together.I am passionate about bringing hope through a holistic life approach. My primary role at Straight Ahead is to organize and implement successful vocational workshops. I believe these workshops serve a very vital role in bringing change and healing as they bring opportunity to learn skills, not only vocational, but how to get along, deal with stress and attitudes. and bring real purpose to life as we create something beautiful out of chaos. These workshops have included building sheds and greenhouses, outdoor furniture, scroll saw art, and more. We are currently introducing a bike workshop and hope to introduce street art and more in the future.
