He is also Chairman of the Friends of Summertown Library in Oxford, having campaigned to keep the Library open and raised £90,000 for its renovation. He is an author of books about Germany and Central & Eastern Europe, and another about freedom. He specialises in people with difficult pasts in WWII and Communism.He published "A Foot In Both Camps: A German Past For Better And For Worse" in 2012. He published "The Budapest House: a Life Re-Discovered" in 2013. See www.thebudapesthouse.com. He is co-author with John Corsellis of "Slovenia 1945," about massacres in ex-Yugoslavia at the end of WWII, published in 3 languages. He published "The Fight for Freedom" in 2016.He teaches journalism as a consultant for Swisscontact in Eastern Europe and third world countries.
