I have a healthy mixture of academic and industrial experience in the field of space optics and lasers. As someone who has more of a scientific background, I also have knowledge and skills in optical and optomechanical engineering. In 2016 I completed my experimental physics PhD at Swinburne University of Technology in the field of ultracold quantum gases.Upon graduation I worked as a laser scientist for two years at MOGLabs building diode lasers for customers. From early 2018 until April 2021 I had a role a The Australian National University as an Adaptive Optics Scientist in the fields of space situational awareness and optical satellite communications SATCOM. My current role at EOS Space Systems ranges from designing and building optical systems to maintaining our operational laser systems and telescopes.

Build an optical setup that enables a laser beam to be propagated out of a telescope to a piece of space debris in low-Earth orbit in order to impart momentum to it using photon pressure. The goal of AOTP is to provide a low-cost method of delaying Kessler Syndrome. - The Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) phasing testbed (Pocket-GMT). Design an optical instrument that can simulate the aberrations the GMT will experience and allow optimisation of wavefront sensors and control algorithms within the laboratory before graduating to the full-scale GMT.- Satellite laser communication.Take part in various projects for external clients revolving around the emerging field of free space laser communication. Such projects include adaptive optics systems, quantum key distribution, optical channel modelling, and atmospheric turbulence characterisation.Responsibilities:- Work with ANU engineers and people from industrial collaborators- Optical design changes to suit requirements using Zemax and Solidworks- Formulate a concept designs that fit the requirements specified by clients- Work with optical metrology equipment such as Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensors, interferometers, alignment telescopes, autocollimators, and point source microscopes.- Support other team members with their projects- Keep abreast of the latest research in the telescope instrumentation field- Participate in the university outreach program- Conduct risk assessments and make laser safety calculations based on the Australian standard. At these temperatures, the gas undergoes a transition from a gaseous form to a condensate. Through the use of optical Bragg spectroscopy, my research determined:- The local point within the gas where the phase transition occurred.- The temperature dependence of an important parameter called the Contact, which describes the likelihood of one particle being close to another within the system.Responsibilities:- Apply knowledge of photonics and electronics to build and maintain various aspects of the experimental apparatus which is used to trap and cool a gas of Lithium atoms.- Construct laser beam setups that are used to probe the ultracold gases.- Conduct experiments to measure certain properties of the ultracold gases.- Use Matlab to analyse the large sets of data coming from these experiments.- Present results through oral and poster presentations within the faculty, or at international conferences.Achievements:- Author of 8 published journal articles including 2 first authored publications.- Presented a prize-winning poster at the Victorian Summer School in Ultracold Physics (VSSUP), 2014.- Improved a large range of skills and knowledge including optics, physics, mathematics, image processing, data analytics and electronics.Awards:- Scholarship – Swinburne University Postgraduate Research Award (SUPRA).
