Surgical Instrumentation R&D Project Engineer
Design and development of consumable products for vitreoretinal surgery. Mechanical Engineering: • Contributed to sales and growth by releasing a new family of products which have the potential to be used in every vitreoretinal surgery case. This consumable significantly contributes to profits.• Completed the design on the first iteration of technically challenging products, valved cannulas, and met the release deadline of an aggressive schedule due to extremely high customer demand. • Ensure product performance, manufacturability, cost effectiveness, reliability, sterilization, transportation, and packaging by developing and executing complex test protocols.• Confirm compliance to required standards for medical products with extensive documentation.• Maximize production efficiency through research and analysis, planning, concept and design, configuration, simulation, testing, evaluation and assessment.• Develop comprehensive engineering designs by considering functionality, effectiveness, reliability, safety, aesthetics, cost, ease of use, climate and environmental impact.• Consistently selected over peers for mechanical design challenges requiring complex assemblies and projects with accelerated time constraints.Project Management:• Complete primary design deliverables and collaborate with a project manager on numerous projects.• Deliver projects on time and within budget through project strategizing and initiation, risk identification and mitigation.• Organize and follow up on highly complex, multi-site, multi-discipline, cross-organizational projects.• Determine project scope, gather data, develop plans, coordinate roll-outs and track projects in various phases of project life-cycles with project team, senior management and operations personnel.• Track projects by generating project deliverables, test plans, business requirements, technical design documents and risk management plans.
