Working with partners, we are already taking an innovative approach to providing financing to homeowners and apartment building owners across the country to upgrade appliances, weatherize homes, and make them more efficient and less expensive to operate through our Power Forward Communities partnership and forming cross-sector collaborations that build more resilient communities to strengthen our workforce and pathways to good jobs and economic mobility. As Director of the Department of Homeland Security Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, a Center of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, I managed a team of six to spearhead initiatives to advance equity in emergency management, strengthen climate resilience, and improve the security of places of worship and community service centers. His work involved collaborating with FEMA and DHS to provide technical assistance to emergency managers and first responders while also addressing human trafficking through the DHS Blue Campaign.

I played a key role in co-developing and overseeing the DHS Center’s performance plan, budget, and project strategies.I designed and executed a nationwide outreach and capacity-building initiative that brought together stakeholders from local to national levels. This initiative successfully enhanced the capabilities of over 25,000 individuals from non-profit, faith-based, advocacy, and government organizations.I led the DHS Center’s efforts in disaster operations, readiness, project management, and public affairs. This included orchestrating three major national exercises, responding to over 15 significant disaster events, and supporting critical missions such as Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. I also managed the response to the 2015 influx of unaccompanied children and coordinated post-incident outreach and messaging following active shooter events in Charleston, San Bernardino, Las Vegas, and Sutherland Springs.
